4 Types of Engagement On Instagram

There are 4 types of engagement to consider when using Instagram. Yup – more than just likes. In fact, the order or these engagements will actually determine if the Instagram Algorithm shows your post to more people. I’m going to share these engagements from least important to most important, so get ready 🙂

The first and most basic engagement on Instagram is the “like”. When someone likes your photo. The reason this is ranked so low on the list is because it truthfully is so easy to just scroll and double tap on a photo – it’s almost become second nature.

The second engagement is ‘comments’. Comments are important because someone is going out of their way to comment on your photo, therefore it takes just a little more effort. However, comments are only ranked second because someone can comment “cool pic” or something insanely generic.

The third engagement is when someone ‘saves’ your post. When someone ‘saves’ your post it means that it was important enough for them to want to reference your post again. An example of this might look like you sharing a travel itinerary or Instagram tips and you ask your audience to “save this if you plan on going here” or “save this if you want to learn how to grow your Instagram”.

The fourth and most important Instagram engagement is ‘shares’. When someone shares your post it means that your post was important enough for them to want to share it with other people. This is the most important because the idea of ‘sharable content’ is EVERYTHING when it comes to social media. Sharable content is how you grow your audience, how you go viral etc..
