Your Guide to Solo (Car) Camping:
Before society freaks out and says “omg you’re a girl out there doing that alone”. I’ll say it was one of those experiences that definitely puts you out of your comfort zone but was 1000% worth it. Solo camping as a female isn’t talked about much, but let’s break it down.
First things first is all about SAFETY.
Make sure you’re camping somewhere you feel comfortable. So, that being said, I would recommend camping either in a regular campsite that you’ll likely need to pay for (vs. dispersed camping).Reason being is you can look up reviews on the campsite prior to your stay, and you will be surrounded by other like-minded individuals and families. Personally, when I’m camping by myself or with another girlfriend I have enjoyed having others around me in nearby campgrounds – it makes me feel safer at night.
How to find Campsites:
Use The Dyrt App
OR
simply use google and google (your destination) campsites –> something will come up and you can scroll through options. Google is what I use for basically everything so this will be helpful and give you many options.
Next up, make sure you have your safety gear. This means, extra water, extra food, a headlamp, flashlights, and a lantern for night time. I would also bring a whistle and bear spray or mace spray as another form of protection.. Not required but just a recommended idea!

For reference, my first time camping in my car was in Mammoth, California at The Geological Hot Creek site. It was the most AMAZING view and I felt really safe because there were other people camping near me.
