The Ultimate Guide to Nusa Penida
We went to Nusa Penida during our Honeymoon and boy, was it a beautiful adventure.
How to Get to Nusa Penida
To get to Nusa Penida from Bali, you’ll need to catch the Ferry or fast boat. The ride is so quick and honestly beautiful (unless you get rough seas) so I actually really enjoyed the ferry ride.
You’ll want to make sure that you reserve tickets ahead of time and plan to get to the ferry about 45 minutes early because it is BUSY. You will not get on the ferry 45 minutes early but trust me when I say crowds are crazy and especially with luggage, you’ll just want to barrier your time.
Where to Stay on Nusa Penida
This modern 15 room boutique hotel on Nusa Penida is so cute, affordable and I believe has the BEST views. I mean the view from our balcony (and the whole hotel actually) is a volcano.
Things to Do on Nusa Penida
I want to preface all things to do on Nusa Penida (but anywhere, really) that if you want to beat the crowds, you’ll need to get out early.
Tours start at around 9 am so if you have your own transportation (scooter, car, driver etc..) I would recommend leaving your hotel much earlier to get to the spots before there are a million tourists.
Broken Beach
Broken Beach is really cool to see and walk around, but it is not a swimming destination (I did not know this). It is usually part of the ‘tours’ that are offered on Nusa Penida and it is really beautiful for photos and to walk around. Personally, I didn’t find it to be SUPER exciting (maybe because I thought you could swim here), but it is a beautiful sight.
KelingKing Beach
KelingKing Beach was a Nusa Penida bucket list item for me. As a photography lover, I have dreamed about shooting KeliningKing beach for years.
There are two ways to view KelingKing beach. The first is admiring it from the top. The blue water contrasting with the greenery on the cliffs is seriously stunning. It’s also suppose to resemble a T-Rex so take a look to see if you notice that!
If you’re feeling adventurous, then buckle up your shoes, it’s time to hike down to Kelingking beach.
I have an entire blog post about the hike down to Kelingking beach as it details how to hike it, what to bring, when to go and how to ensure you’re safe when hiking down. You can check that blog post out here when I upload it
Diamond Beach
Diamond Beach on Nusa Penida is STUNNING but again, not for the faint of heart if you’re scared of heights.
To get down to Diamond Beach, you need to decent a very narrow staircase right next to a cliff – I was honestly freaking out and basically hugging the rock wall.
The heights were worth it though because the views down are absolutely stunning and swimming in the crystal clear water once you’re down there is so much fun.
How to Get Around on Nusa Penida
The road on Nusa Penida are well, um, scary hahaha. They are the SKINNIEST roads I have ever been on so we actually had a driver for the days we wanted to explore on the Island. I was so thankful we had a driver because unless you’re super comfortable on a scooter, I personally was thankful we had someone who knew the roads, knew how to drive and communicate with the locals (they had a lot of honking signals).
