The Ultimate Guide to La Ventana

The Ultimate Guide to La Ventana

La Ventana is a tucked away kite boarding town in Baja California just a short three hours from Cabo and the drive is beautiful through the mountains.

The Ultimate Guide to La Ventana

I had personally never heard of La Ventana until our friends recommended it so I truly had no expectations. I actually had never been to Baja California at all so just had no idea what to expect. But let me tell you, La Ventana is the perfect tropical getaway you need. Truly, it has everything from drinks poolside to mountain biking in the desert – how epic.

How to Get to La Ventana

La Ventana is just a short 3.5 hours from Cabo if you choose to fly into the San José del Cabo airport. Once you land, I would definitely recommend renting a car. Our friends recommended Mex Rental Car to us and we found them very easy so I would recommend booking from them. There are also a ton of other car companies you can rent from. We just happened to use Mex and it seemed to be the cheapest option and easy.

Where To Stay in La Ventana

I wish I could list multiple places to stay in La Ventana but truly the best place to stay is Hotel Todo Bien. It is a 5 star experience for under $400/ night and every single penny was worth it in my opinion. We definitely splurged a little staying here but it was beyond worth it.

We also stayed in one of the rooms with the best view. You can choose either room 8 or 4 if you want to wake up and just watch sunrise from your bed or balcony without needed to go anywhere else on the hotel property.

The whole property is easy to get around especially because it is a boutique hotel with only 12 rooms. They are working on expanding but only to 24 rooms so don’t worry.

Hotel Todo Bien has a full service restaurant on site right next to the pool so while you’re laying poolside drinking a margarita, you can also order your breakfast, lunch or dinner. And YES, you can be drinking a marg at 8 am.. no judgement here! #itsfiveoclocksomewhere

Things To Do in La Ventana

There actually (to my surprise) is much to do in La Ventana.

La Ventana is most known for its Kite Surfing. It is truly a small Kite Surfing town because it is on the Sea of Cortez and happens to get the winds that pick up around 11 am every single day. If you happen to lookout at the Sea of Cortez during the day, after 11 am, you will likely see it covered by Kite Boarders.

You can also Mountain Bike in La Ventana! This was our first experience Mountain Biking and it did not disappoint.

We went out with two family friends who had extra bikes, but there are definitely places you can rent bikes all along the La Ventana Strip.

We went into the Cactus Desert Area – if you ask where to go from the people you’re renting bikes from, they will likely point you in this direction too. It was easy – moderate but don’t underestimate how “easy” biking through sand can be.

You can also just hang poolside or seaside at your local hotel and enjoy the calming, peaceful views and relaxation. We did this for one full day and it truly was so relaxing.

And last but not least there are SO MANY GOOD PLACES TO EAT!

Where To Eat in La Ventana

I want to preface all restaurants and just the vibe overall in La Ventana is super chill. It is NOT “Cabo-y” so no need to dress like that. In fact, we literally would go out in T-shirts and sweatshirts and fit right in.

Mariscos El Cone – A low key, local seafood restaurant with a lot of outdoor seating. The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the coconut shrimp and it was exactly what I was needing after a few days in Mexico. They came with 4+ jumbo shrimp. They also have burritos, tacos, you name it and they have it. Such good local food.

Polvora- Perfect for breakfast or early lunch. Their menu is fresh and farm to table. Their ginger, beet juice was absolutely delish and we got their egg scrambles one day and then 2 of their toast meals the next day. I personally loved the avocado toast – it was an avocado salad topped with cucumbers and radishes on sourdough and Andrew loved the egg toast.

Baja Grill – I was absolutely obsessed with the vibe here. There were plenty of tables so that a lot of people could be there but still felt super small town and I am already dying to go back. We actually went to this restaurant/bar for Thursday Night Football since we know Andrew is the BIGGEST Bengals fan. So fun fact, if you’re looking for  Football Bar in the small town of La Ventana, Make sure to check out Baja Grill.

La Tuna La Ventana

La Tuna – Trendy and really good tacos great for larger groups. Okay, La Tuna is very picturesque. It has a “Baja Vibes” Sign hanging on the beach with bean bags, a dance floor and tables on the beach…honestly, what could be better? I would recommend to bring bug spray! I’m not sure If I was the only person who was actually attacked by mosquitos here, but the views are definitely worth it! It’s just such a fun place.

Nomada Cafe- YES. All I can say is that their entire menu is fabulous. Like absolutely everything. You just cannot go wrong. We got the breakfast bagels with all the works on them and omg I am craving this all the way back in San Diego!

I hope you find this guide helpful as you plan your trip to La Ventana. It is such a magical place so please enjoy and always, be respectful of the Locals! 🙂

x,

Christy
