The Most Instagrammable Spots in Tulum, Mexico

The Most Instagrammable Spots in Tulum, Mexico

So I have to be honest, I went to Tulum not knowing what to expect. I was excited, but with little funds in my bank account I was nervous to be in another country. Little did we know, we would be finding the most instagrammable places in Tulum.

 Cenotes: pronounced (see-note-ays)

There are cenotes all around Tulum as they are unique to the area. Cenotes are a natural pit, or sinkhole resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. Cenotes are associated with the Tucatan Peninsula of Mexico which is why cenotes are unique to Tulum and surrounding areas.

The Cenote pictured above is Cenote Calavera. This cenote is technically “less popular”, which is why it is a must see. **Updating this as of Dec. 2023 – This Cenote has become insanely popular so make sure to get here early!

Cenote Calavera is insanely picturesque and a MUST SEE!. There is a ladder that descends into the groundwater and has a rope hanging to look like a swing.

Make sure to arrive at 8:30 when the doors open so you beat the crowds!

If you’re looking to go to other Cenotes, check the times online and make sure to be there right before the doors opens.

2. Downtown Tulum

Downtown is one street near the beaches of Tulum. Here, you will find many cute shops and restaurants ALL instagram worthy and gorgeous. Locations such as Azulik, Matcha Mama, Coco Tulum and Papaya Play Project are all along this strip.

3. Chichen-Itza

Chicen Itza is a two hour drive from Tulum. I recommend getting there right when it opens at 8:00 am. There can be up to 5,000 people visiting Chichen- Itza a day during high season so getting there early for photographs is incredibly important.

4. Azulik/Kintoh (hotel/restaurant)

Azulik is known for it’s incomparable beauty, design and architecture. Azulik is incredibly expensive for accommodations, but if you want to head to their restaurant “Kintoh” I would recommend that for a drink.

Kintoh opens at 5:30 pm. You are not allowed up to the restaurant anytime before that.

There are three different “nests” you can have your drinks in. All the “nests” are shared tables so sit back, grab a drink and make some friends up there!

5. Coco Tulum

Coco Tulum is a hotel and beach club. If you are someone not staying at COCO Tulum for accommodations, I would recommend grabbing a drink on their all white deck overlooking the ocean.

Their most “instagrammable shots” are on the swings on the all white deck.
